About the Hall
The Hall has been in service to our community for over 75 years.

The Hall BuildingBicton Parish Recreation Room (now known as Yettington Village Hall) first existed as an army hut housing American GI's on Woodbury Common during WWII.
Following the Second World War, the hut was gifted to Bicton Parish by Colonel Richard Dyke OBE of the Rectory, Bicton, in 1947. The building was then moved to its current position, on land Lord Clinton bequeathed to the community by way of a Deed of Gift. It was officially opened as Bicton Recreation Room on 7th February 1948 and the clock at the back of the Hall was presented on the same day by a Mr Fred Sage. Lord Clinton and the Chairmen of East Budleigh, Otterton and Colaton Raleigh Parish Councils attended. |
Colonel Dyke
Colonel Dyke (1909-1975) was awarded an OBE in King George VI's Birthday Honours List in 1951. The List comprised various orders and honours appointments across the Commonwealth to highlight and reward good works accomplished by its citizens. They were made to celebrate the official birthday of the King and were published on 1st June 1951 for the British Empire, Australia, New Zealand, Ceylon and Pakistan. Colonel Dyke was subsequently commissioned as a Deputy Lieutenant in May 1973.
Restoration Project
The building became in need of some tender love and care after all that time. A project is nearing completion to refurbish the Hall to bring it back to a suitable condition for the local community to enjoy again.
A Committee of Yettington residents has been formed to oversee, with the guidance of the Trustees, the restoration of the Hall.
The work was divided into phases, the first of which comprises the renewal of the roof, provision of an inside toilet, rewiring the electrics, internal decoration and replacement of the doors and windows.
The committee has been successful in raising over £25,000 in donations, grants and fundraising events to date. This has been sufficient to cover the costs of Phase One... but more will be needed to tackle areas such as stabilising the building, installing kitchen facilities, securing the site with gates and fencing and re-roofing the adjacent building etc.
